2ND ANNUAL PITTSBURGH AFRICAN DIVERSITY FESTIVAL

The 2nd Annual Pittsburgh African Diversity Festival is here. PLEASE SAVE THE DATE AND COME REPRESENT YOUR COUNTRY AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE AFRICAN CONTINENT.

The 2010 festival promise to be better, bigger, more family oriented and much more fun.

Date: Saturday July 17, 2010

Where: Schenley Park (the oval – soccer field area)

Time: 12noon – 7pm

Food: all African countries represented/living in Pittsburgh and Allegheny county area will showcase ethnic food and drinks for sale at reasonable price.

Arts and Crafts: alot of community members/vendors will display and sell arts, crafts and clothes.

Families: families can bring their own food and drinks (NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES).

ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY AT THE FESTIVAL

- Final Game of the UAC Pittsburgh Soccer World Cup 2010 (8 countries participating).

- Presentation of trophy and medals to winners by special guest of honor.

- International songs, dances and live performances.

- Authentic African food, snacks and drinks for sale.

- Lots of games/sporting activities.

- Goodwill messages/remarks from sponsors and special guests.

- A lot of give-away prizes.

- Media coverage.

AFRICAN COMMUNITIES IN PITTSBURGH RESPOND TO THE DISASTROUS EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI

Haiti

PITTSBURGH, PA – Jan. 20, 2010 – The Union of African Communities in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County (UAC) join with millions across the globe in expressing our condolences and unwavering friendship to the people of Haiti. We are more than horrified at the devastation caused by the killer earthquake which has resulted in the estimated loss of the lives of more than 100,000 Haitians. 

UAC is an umbrella Organization for all African Communities in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Constituted by leadership/representatives from 26 plus African Countries/communities (Immigrants, Refugees, Students, and Internationals) represented and living in this region. This is a time for action – it is a time for us as Africans to respond to this tragedy as the world has always responded to crisis in Africa.  Under the leadership of UAC, our communities are responding generously to the people of Haiti. 

Please join us on Sunday January 31, 2010,  as all African Communities in Pittsburgh (representing over 26 countries), African Churches, Organizations and community leaders come together to pray for Haiti and the Haitian people.

The Red Cross will be present at the event to receive voluntary donations.

Please join us to express our condolences and unwavering friendship to the people of Haiti.

NOTE: UAC is not accepting any funds for the Haitian relief.  We direct those wishing to make monetary contributions to President Obama’s statement, asking you to contribute online to the Red Cross, or donate $10 to be charged to your cell phone bill by texting “HAITI” to “90999.”  Or find more ways to help through the Center for International Disaster Information.
